Painting into Textiles

for several years many people have mentioned that my paintings would look great as textile designs. i didn't get it and actually still don't. i don't see how my earlier paintings could be translated into to patterns, but with my more recent work that is driven by geometric and mostly angular patterns, i get it.

a 'friend' on facebook mentioned Spoonflower as an easy way to make fabric and it wasn't until recently that i checked it out. holy fuck, they make it easier than i ever thought was possible! plus they have organic fabric, clean printing practices and tools that help you create patterns. just upload a hi res photo and add a pattern effect. BAM, DONE. this makes me very happy.

  1. I think Spoonflower is a really interesting concept... and I even uploaded a pattern once, but, I don't know... there's still something holding me back. It might be how much I like printing fabric myself, but I don't know. These pieces look gorgeous. I could just see them walking down the runway. If I were a couture designer I would be on you for custom textile design like white on rice.

  2. thanks Jesse! wow, you print fabric yourself! that's sounds like a lot of fun, but a whole lot of setup too. something i don't have much of here in NYC is SPACE! yes, i have visions of Diane Von Furstenberg contacting me to use my prints for a wrap dress...and yes i will accept payment in the form of clothes!
