just look at that light! her colors are always stunning... not to mention her subject matter. a lot of her characters had those stripped stockings on, which i really love. one painting in particular, the smoker, is totally bathed in a luscious green. the photo online does not do it justice -if you're in town check it out.

what the hell is going on in this guy's head! i love it. especially all the outer edge undulating lines. those seemed to be one of the many consistent forms in this group of paintings. he had many paintings on canvas/panel, but i fell in love, as i often do, w/the works on paper. the one above is one of them.
Leah Tinari @ Mixed Greens Gallery
i've liked her work for a few yrs now. her paintings really are full of such bright colors and painted so incredibly well - this girl's got skills! i was thoroughly impressed by the b/w paintings. she typically works from photos of friends at parties and so on. this time around we get a chance to be in one of her next paintings. she installed a photo booth, stocked w/an assortment of brightly colored backdrops to choose from for your close up.
Simon Evans @ James Cohan Gallery
not quite sure what to say about this guy's work. i like it becuz he uses every day materials - things we all have laying around. and it all looked handmade. nothing was perfect, in fact it looked a little dirty and banged up. there's so much art out there that looks absolutely flawless - you can't see the artist's hand. it was refreshingly rough and raw. i hope i wasn't supposed to take it too seriously, cuz i found it pretty damn funny.
