this book by Rudolf Arnheim, originally published in '54 is a pretty dry read, until i skipped to the chapter on COLOR!!! i love reading about color theory. one day i'll sit myself down and actually try reading what Newton, Goethe and Schopenhauer have to say... just some more books to request from the trusty NYC library! below i've included some ideas that stood out for me. i'm still reading and will re-read, so more entries may come....
"we are quite sensitive in distinguishing subtly different shades from one another, but when it comes to identifying a particular color by memory or at some spatial distance from another, our power of discrimination is severly limited... this is mainly because differences in degree are much harder to keep in mind than differences in kind"
"Rorschach found that a cheerful mood makes for color responses, whereas depressed people more often react to shape."
"the boundaries determining the shape of objects derive from the eyes' capacity to distinguish between areas of different brightness of color."
